Some common things that can affect the fit of your stoma bag:

  • Ups and downs – Immediately after surgery your stoma will be quite swollen but will eventually reduce in size. Over time, it will continue to fluctuate as your body changes. It’s important to regularly measure your stoma and check the size of your flange to get the best fit. Trio recommends: Genii™ Ostomy Seals
  • Ins and outs – Adhesion can also be affected by your general body shape and whether your stoma is flat to the skin or well spouted. A flush or inverted stoma may be more suited to a convex product. Trio recommends: Genii™ Convex Ostomy Seals
  • Location, location, location – Where is your stoma sited? If it’s close to your belly button, on your bending line, or if you have a hernia, this can cause problems with adhesion. Trio recommends: Genii™ Flange Extenders
  • Skin sense – Constant bag changes can lead to red, sore skin which can also affect adhesion. Colder weather may dry skin out making changes uncomfortable. An adhesive remover and barrier spray designed for sensitive skin will help to keep your skin healthy. Trio recommends: A combination of Elite® and Elisse®.
  • Busy bodies – If you have a very active lifestyle or enjoy exercise, including swimming, this also impacts the fit of your bag. Seals and flange extenders are great for extra confidence on the go. Trio recommends: Genii™ Ostomy Seals or Flange Extenders.
