Being a teenager is challenging at the best of times as you’re having to deal with changes to your body and hormones as well as starting secondary school. Dealing with a stoma alongside all of this can make these years even more daunting. It’s important to remember that your stoma surgery will have been to improve your quality of life as well as many other possible reasons, there is also no reason it should restrict your life or experiences.

Remember that who you tell about your stoma is entirely up to you. Sharing with your friends can potentially bring you closer together and also help with any potentially embarrassing situations. It’s unlikely that telling your close friends will change their feelings towards you at all as you are still the same person.
