School can be tough for kids and even more so if they have medical or health issues such as a stoma. The right support for you and your child can make a massive difference to their experience so it’s important to be prepared before they start school or return to school after surgery.

One of the best things you can do is to speak to the school’s special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) as early as possible to discuss what help your child may need. With the help of your child’s stoma care nurse, you can draw up a care plan to ensure your child has assistance at school if they need it.
